Solid Fuel Sets

We are pleased to offer you our unique range of Solid Fuel Sets. These sets first appeared in the 1920’s and 1930’s as part of the Firemaster range and are the ideal solution to burn a real fire whether it be coals, wood or peat.

Our Solid Fuel Sets all suit a standard 16” fireplace opening and some of the popular designs also have a larger 18” option. The Deco Set is particularly unique because it also has a 12” and 14” option for fireplace openings often found in a bedroom or hallway.

It’s not unusual to move into a 1920’s to 1950’s house and find an original tiled fireplace with the fireclay back still intact but the fret, grate and ashpan missing. Our products will fit those fireplaces, all you need to do is to establish the size of the fireplace opening, most of which are 406mm (16”) and then pick the solid fuel set that your prefer. If you are to use your fireplace for solid fuel for the first time it is important that your chimney flue is checked for obstructions or leaks by a HETAS approved installer and that your chimney is swept beforehand.

On this page we can offer you the most popular Classic Guardette Set, which includes the Fret, Bottom Grate, Ashpan and Lifting Tool. This set is available in matt black or highlight polished and is available in two sizes to suit a standard 16” or 18” opening. Other sets need to be purchased individually, the Fret, the Grate and then the Ashpan which includes the Lifting Tool.

Also on this page you will find the Firestar All Night Burner with controllable air intake which is ideal for those wanting to keep a basic fire running over several days.

Our Frets are generally matt black in finish and although the paint finish is heat resistant, it may tarnish with extreme heat or upon contact with a naked flame. If this occurs, Cast Tec Stove Paint Spray is ideal for restoring your fret to its former glory.
